Video games on the PC have many advantages over games on home consoles. Many prefer to play on a computer for the ever better graphics quality on the PC.
The power of the machine, much higher than that of a game console, allows for more detailed games. They are also smoother, cheaper to buy and can be customized with “Mods”, content offered by the gaming community. It is however rather complicated to make a choice, several parameters are taken into account.Performance.The performance of the Gamer computer will depend on your requirements, once again, if you want to run all the games at the maximum of their graphic qualities in very high resolution or on the contrary stay within the average graphic parameters, these are two very different things.Generally speaking, for occasional gaming on a desktop gamer computer, Trade Discount recommends a configuration with intel core I5, 8 GB RAM and a dedicated graphics card. The graphics card doesn’t have to be overpowering, a medium range card such as Nvidia GT 730, GTX 750Ti etc… is quite sufficient. It will be adapted to very popular games, you will be able to play in good conditions with an average of more than 60 fps to your favorite games. If you want to tackle more resource-hungry titles in Full HD, the graphics card will have to be more powerful. Choose a card with at least 2 GB of graphics memory and the most recent one possible. For example, in our configurations we offer a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050, with this card you can play heavier titles such as Star Wars Battlefront, Fallout 4, Battlefield, and more. All this in medium or high graphics quality in Full HD (1920×1080) also called 1080p.In case your requirements are even higher, be aware that it is possible to play in resolutions higher than Full-HD, on PC, we have in particular the QHD (2560×1440) also called 1440P, and the 4K (3840 x 2160) or 2160P. In these cases, the cards will have to be even more powerful, from mid-range to high-end or even very high-end for 4K. Some examples at AMD: Radeon RX 570, Radeon RX 580, R9 FuryX. At Nvidia: GTX 1060, GTX 1070, GTX 1080, GTX 1080 Ti … You don’t lack of choice, knowing that you need a configuration adapted to these rather energy consuming and especially bulky cards. The information given above is for information only, it is quite possible to play greedy games with a lower configuration, but in this case, you will have to lower the graphic parameters, or even the resolution. It all depends on your requirements, another option if you are rather limited in budget is to buy second-hand hardware, you can quite easily opt for a more powerful graphics card at a lower cost, or to boost your RAM memory…The screenThe PC monitor is an essential component, especially in a gaming PC. It is indeed the direct interface; the rendering of your computer. To choose a gamer pc monitor, you have to consider two parameters, the resolution and the diagonal expressed in inches (inch). For an optimal comfort, we advise you to stay above 20 inches diagonal, the ideal being a 22 or 23 inches screen (about 55 cm diagonal). For the resolution, if HD is sufficient (1366×768), it is preferable to opt for Full-HD 1080p (1920×1080) for a more detailed image. Today most monitors sold in these large diagonals have this Full-HD resolution.Be aware that there are larger and higher resolution displays available. Today we find 32 inch, curved, 4K or higher resolution displays sometimes. It is also possible to connect several displays to the same PC to have larger work or play areas. The most common is to have 2 or 3, but some go up to 6 and more. From a connectivity point of view, HDMI and Display Port are to be prioritized because they support the latest standards with a higher transfer capacity. DVI is still in the race, and VGA is on the end of its career.PeripheralsPeripherals are a matter of taste rather than obligation, it’s all about finding the keyboard or mouse you prefer. There’s nothing to stop you from using office peripherals for gaming purposes. On the other hand, gamer keyboards and gamer mice are specially designed for gamer use, so they have extra buttons, a better grip, glides that slide better etc… The same goes for keyboards, more keys, a specific height, backlighting…There are also mechanical keyboards with a very particular touch, as their name indicates, the return is ensured by a mechanical switch and is thus firmer. Players generally prefer this type of keyboard for their longevity since they are very resistant, ideal for intensive use.SSD and HDDThere are mainly two types of storage, hard disk and SSD. The hard disk has more storage space and is usually cheaper and the SSD is much faster. If you would like to know more about SSDs, see our guide to SSDs.The trade-off between the two must be made according to your budget, it should be noted that games are generally very demanding in disk space, some exceed the 50 GB required for installation. On a SSD, you will quickly run out of space. The hard disk will be more adapted in this case to a gamer use, for this reason. There is however a configuration in which we have storage space and speed. You just need to have both! Indeed, you can use the SSD to store your system (Windows, Ubuntu …) and the hard disk to store games. You have the reactivity of the SSD for the whole configuration and the disk space for your games. It is this configuration which is generally preferred by the players.
